An introduction to DIR® and DIRFLOORTIME®

In-Person DIR 101 Course

Approved by the International Council on Development and Learning (ICDL)

DIR 101 is a prerequisite for further advanced training in ICDL

Objectives

This is an introductory course that reviews the theoretical framework, scientific evidence, and scope of application of the model promoting functional emotional developmental capacities, reflective thinking, and overall mental health for all children and adults, including those with developmental disabilities.

Learning objectives for this course include

1. Identify three common features of autism and other challenges of relating and communicating

2. Identify four key features of relationship-based approaches

3. Describe all six Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities in the DIR® model including the impact of individual differences and relationship/family

4. Identify three key principles and basic strategies of Floortime

5. Describe the essential role of affect

January 15 and 16, 2026 (Thursday and Friday)

Pico Tower, 66 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, HK

Target participants

Psychologists, doctors, nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, early childhood educators, childcare workers, and anyone who is interested in working with families with SEN children;

Full-time students are welcome

Medium of instruction

English (supplemented by Cantonese)

Certificate

Full Attendance of the training is required. Certificates will be posted on floortime.org. Accounts will be created by ICDL for each participant to log in and obtain their certificates.
